Parents' Area : Liaison with Parents

Staff/Parent Relationships
The head teacher and staff welcome the opportunity to discuss with parents/carers their child's
progress in school and any problems which might arise. There are two parents' evenings a year, usually in autumn and spring, and parents/carers are advised of times and dates at the beginning of each term. Other appointments may be made throughout the year to see your child's teacher, team leader or headteacher.

Parental Help in School
A number of parents and friends of the school help with such activities as reading, baking, needlework etc. If you are interested in joining this much valued band of volunteers, please contact your child's teacher or the head teacher. All volunteers are asked to submit their name to the Criminal Records Bureau for police clearance regarding working with children.

Complaints

Complaints about the curriculum at the school should be made to the headteacher and will be dealt with by the procedure which has been agreed between the Authority and the Secretary of State.  A copy of this procedure is available for inspection at the school.  Any other complaints about the school should be directed to the headteacher in the first instance, who will try to resolve the problem informally.  Any complaint about a member of staff will be dealt with under the Articles of Government, which can also be seen at the school or at the City of York Council’s Local Education Authority Offices.  If, after having discussed the complaint with the headteacher, a parent is not satisfied, then the complaint should be directed in writing to the school’s Governing Body.  The Governing Body will do all it can to deal with the complaint in a satisfactory manner.  Further recourse may be taken by contacting the City of York Council’s Director of Learning, Culture and Children’s Services, Mr. Pete Dwyer.  A leaflet explaining the complaints procedure is available from the leaflet containers opposite the general office.
