 Governors : Introduction

DRINGHOUSES PRIMARY SCHOOL GOVERNING BODY

The head teacher and staff are responsible to the governing body for the organisation, curriculum and management of the school. Some matters are outside the control of the head teacher or governors and are determined by the Local Authority (City of York Council) or the Department for Education and Skills.

Six parents/carers are elected by parents/carers of all children on the school roll to represent parents' views. Each governor holds office for four years. The governors must, by law, meet termly (although they usually meet more often than that). Governors' names, copies of the minutes of the last meeting and the dates of the next meeting are on the notice board in school and the website.

Parents are encouraged to raise issues with the governors, although we anticipate any problems or queries will generally be addressed to class teachers, team leaders or the head teacher first.

The governors may hold a meeting where parents/carers have an opportunity to air their views.
