 Autumn Term Newletter

On Tuesday 30th October 2007 our class went on an autumn walk to Knavesmire woods. Please click on the picture below to see what we got up to.

When all the children have started school full time, we would like to establish a routine where children can read a book in the classroom until the second bell at 8:45am. Please note that all children should be in the classroom by 8.45 am and ready for prompt registration.

Children will be encouraged to participate in both child and adult initiated activities. Developing independence and responsibility for the inside and outside environment is a particular focus in this first half term.

Each child has received a planner with guidance notes enclosed. An overview is  stuck in each week to allow you to discuss some of the activities and learning with your child.

In addition, children will bring home a 'sound book' to revise the sound,
action and formation of the focus letters. Some children will be ready to think of words beginning or ending with letters and eventually begin to blend the sounds together to read simple words.

Please encourage your child to engage in some 'mark making' activities at home such as tracing, drawing and forming letters. Many children are reluctant to 'write', often due to undeveloped fine motor skills. Numeracy is largely practical; activities to develop understanding of number, calculating, shape, space and measure will be taught in whole class, small group and within different areas of provision.

We understand that different media can be combined when making bags and      butterflies.

I am experimenting with different ways of moving while I dance with the ribbon.

We are experiment to create different textures while we play in the 'gloop'.
